In A Galaxy Far Far Away

I caught the end of a story on the news yesterday that had me laughing out loud. It was a clip from the popular video site YouTube titled; "The Empire Strikes Barack". I went and watched the whole five minute video this morning and I have to tell you it was pretty damn funny. I will included a link to the video at the end of this post. The video's creator dubbed the faces of some of our well known politicians over the characters from the "Star Wars" movies. Barack Obama was "Luke Skywalker", Hillary Clinton was "Darth Vadar", and Bill Clinton was "The Evil Emperor". I don't know if Obama can be matched with Skywalker, but compared with the Clinton's, it seems that he is definitely on the "good side of the force". Hillary as Vadar was perfect, in fact she should get herself a Darth Vadar pants suit. Good old Bill Clinton as the Evil Emperor was hilarious but not all that believable. If Bill Clinton had the power of the force, he would likely just use it on women.

La Isla Bonita

The island of Puerto Rico was in fact beautiful for Senator Hillary Clinton yesterday. Clinton obliterated rival Senator Barack Obama by 68% to 32% margin. Many pundits and the Obama camp itself, thinks that he wrap up Democratic nomination early next week. Not so fast, Clinton is not hanging around just for the fun of it. If she did not feel that there was something to gain from remaining, Clinton would have already quit. Surprisingly, Clinton actually has a pretty good argument in the fact that she is ahead of Senator Obama in the popular vote. Based on the rules Obama will likely win I agree, but just like the DNC Committee taught us on Saturday, rules were meant to be broken. I think Obama is a little worried and continues to kiss Clinton's buttocks as if he may sweet talk her into giving up. Obama said yesterday; "First of all, Senator Clinton is an outstanding public servant, she has worked tirelessly during this campaign ... and she is going to be a great asset when we go into November. Whatever differences Senator Clinton and I may have, those differences pale in comparison to the other side." Clinton defiantly has momentum coming off of a few landslide primary victories. By comparison, Obama looks to be limping across the finish line.

Space Plumber

The Space Shuttle Discovery carrying seven astronauts roared into space orbit Saturday, carrying a giant Japanese lab to add on to the international space station. A proud moment indeed. Discovery also is ferrying another vital piece of equipment to the International Space Station; a toilet pump. Ah, the glory of space travel. Look, even miles above the Earth nature still calls. How may of us have been stuck out in the woods with no facilities? That's bad enough, imagine being stuck in space when you gotta go? For more than one week the Space Station's toilet has been on the fritz, and the three astronauts aboard have had to attempt to manually flush. With no gravity, it sounds like there may be all sorts of things floating around up there, Yuk. We all know how much a plumber charges for an emergency call. This one must carry one heck of a price tag.

American Shame

In war solders die in both combat and accidents. That fact is inescapable and the reason why we detest war. Accidents involving vehicles, helicopters, and planes have claimed many soldiers lives. While every casualty is tragic, these are heroic, honorable deaths, in service to our Country. What happened to Staff Sgt. Ryan Maseth in Iraq was neither heroic or honorable. This highly decorated soldier was killed by a water pump that was not properly grounded, when he turned on the shower in his barracks. OK, tragic but freak accidents happen right? WRONG! At least 12 U.S. soldiers have been electrocuted in Iraq since the start of the war in 2003! Five of them died! In all instances improper grounding was the likely culprit. Why the hell hasn't the Army straightened this out after the very first incident? Why have they not held the contractor accountable? This is a national disgrace and an undeserving end for America's Bravest. I have written a few posts recently about some serious issues with our military, but this is by far the most tragic. I would not want to have the job of visiting these soldiers families to tell them how they died. I would like the job of Secretary of Defense so I could kick the asses of those responsible for this tragedy. God rest their souls they are still American heroes.

Go East Young Man

Republican Senator and Presidential Nominee John McCain ripped into his likely opponent, Senator Barack Obama over Iraq. McCain Criticized Obama for not visiting Iraq in more than two years and for turning down his offer that they should make a joint trip to the country. A joint McCain/Obama trip to Iraq would have been very different. Where is all of that politics of change Obama's been talking about? I believe that Obama would not go on a joint trip with McCain to Iraq, out of fear of appearing like a novice on foreign policy issues. As for why Obama himself has not visited, that is a good question. McCain gave Obama a thumping when he said; "he wants to sit down with the president of Iran but hasn't yet sat down with Gen. Petraeus, the leader of our troops in Iraq?". Ouch, that had to sting. Obama has said that he would not go on a trip to Iraq with McCain because it is nothing more than a "political stunt". The irony of it all is that Obama is now saying that he may make a solo visit to Iraq. Talk about your political stunts! To me if Obama goes now after McCain called him out, it appears that McCain is the true leader and Obama is becoming a "me too" politician. That is not change that I can believe in.

You Get Half

Well the results are in from yesterday's big Democratic Rules Committee meeting and it goes like this; basically Obama and Clinton each get half of the delegates from Michigan and Florida. I watched many hours of the meeting live and was not surprised by the reaction of Clinton supporters in the crowd when the decision was reached. Senator Clinton wanted the committee to seat all of the delegates from Florida and Michigan. Speakers talked with great confidence about Democratic unity, but it looked to me like nothing could be further from the truth. I do not think Clinton is going to give up and will likely take her fight all the way to the Democratic Convention this summer. Clinton has long made the argument that she is the more electable candidate and matches up better against Republican John McCain. Clinton has also claimed to be ahead in the popular vote, and now if you count Michigan and Florida, she has a lead of around 100,000 votes. This will be Hillary's argument and it's not a bad one, but with the Democratic leadership yearning for an end to this process, her case may fall upon deaf ears. The leadership is more concerned with moving ahead and securing the White House this fall, and rightfully so. Despite this, I still do not see Clinton taking this lying down. It will be interesting to see what Clinton decides to do. Would anybody really be surprised if she decides on a "scorched earth" policy and takes the fight all the way to Denver?

Doing The Feds Job

I have been noticing that many State and local Government's have been attempting to do the Federal Government's job for them recently. The have to out of necessity, because the Federal Government has done little to deal with the immigration issue. The town of Farmers Branch, Texas drafted a law against renting apartments to illegal immigrants. Well that makes perfect sense. How could it be otherwise? Notice the "illegal" before the immigrant? Why would anybody rent them an apartment? Well there is no room left in America for plain and simple, straightforward logic. U.S. District Judge Sam A. Lindsay declared the Farmers Branch law was unconstitutional, citing that Federal Law supersedes local laws. Perhaps the Judge is technically correct, and the real problem is that Washington is not doing it's job and enforcing Federal Laws.
