It sure is a nice change of pace to have some good news to bring you. A few days ago I wrote "The Evil Empire", a story about the woman from Missouri who suffered severe brain damage in a car accident a few years ago. Deborah Shank was an employee of wal-mart at the time of the accident and her health plan paid in excess of 400k for her medical treatment. Years after she was awarded a settlement from the other driver in the accident, wal-mart sued her for the monies the health plan had dispensed. The retail giant won the lawsuit and that decision was upheld by the highest court in the land. It was however the wrong moral decision and a giant missed opportunity for wal-mart to improve their tattered public image. Yesterday wal-mart announced they have had a change of heart and were returning the funds to Mrs. Shank. I have read many comments today that say it is "too little too late". I say it is never too late to do what is right. It is a start, so I will capitalize Wal-Mart for the first time. This time they deserve it. Some give credit to the blogosphere for leading the public outrage that put pressure on the retail giant. Together we can make a difference.
