Turning The Other Cheek

Last week Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad requested a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI. Ahmadinejad and many other heads of state will be in Rome this week for a meeting of the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization. Apparently the Iranians have been pressing for some time to meet with the Pope, no doubt to use as some kind of propaganda. Pope Benedict avoided Ahmadinejad diplomatically by saying he will not hold private meetings with any of the heads of state. It appears that Pope Benedict has the good sense not to meet with terrorists or their supporters, else you risk legitimizing their methods of pressing a cause. It's a shame that Jimmy Carter does not share the Pope's wisdom.
