Save Our Park Update

Last month in "Save Our Park", I wrote about an issue that is very close to my heart. In sum,
The Governor of New Jersey Jon Corzine (D), has slated 9 of our State Parks to close or reduce their services, as part of his State Budget cuts. The State Park closings will save New Jersey about 4.5 million dollars next year. The State Budget will be at least 33 Billion dollars! The State Park's closing will only save a mere drop in the fiscal budget. I also argued that while this is a State issue, it is of National concern as well. The most tragic target on Governor Corzine's hit list is Monmouth Battlefield State Park. The park is set on the site of The Battle of Monmouth that took place during the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Monmouth was one of the most important and pivotal of the Revolution. That land has been paid for with the blood of our forefathers and belongs to the people. It is an outrage that this park is not part of the National Park System. In an update, the good people of Monmouth County, New Jersey are coming to the rescue. Monmouth County Freeholders passed a resolution urging the State to keep all of it's parks open. Furthermore, negotiations have begun with State officials to have the County take over most of the Parks operations. What a shame it is to add the costs of administering this sacred land to the municipal tax burden, but as one County Freeholder put it; "You can't put a lock on history". Amen to that! I do not think that I overstate when I say that our Government is broken. Too often, our Government no longer serves it's people. I guess that's why king, I mean Governor Corzine no longer cares about the people of New Jersey or our Revolutionary Forefathers. In many ways our Government has become what our Revolutionary Forefathers held in contempt! It's time to dump some more tea into the harbor.
