I really hate to make light of any tragedy, but something about this story struck me a little funny. A few days ago in Houston, Texas, Police shot and killed a 52 year old man after he led them on a high-speed chase following a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, the man told Houston Police that he worked for the CIA. The officer who stopped him became suspicious when the man appeared to be nervous. The Police were trying to verify if his claim was true, when he sped off. Police pursued, and after the chase ended, the man stepped out of his car but refused officers' commands to put his hands in plain sight. Police shot him when it appeared he was reaching back into the car for a weapon. After the incident, Police found three loaded weapons in the car. This "secret agent's" family has come forth to assert that he did in fact work for the CIA. His newly widowed wife has even filed suit against the City of Houston. All of this, begs for just one question. Why didn't the man just flash his CIA credentials and stay put long enough for Police to verify them? The CIA has denied that this man was connected to the agency. Not all that surprising, or necessarily an indication of the truth. We have seen Mission Impossible after all.

I understand and sympathize with the need for law enforcement to protcet themselves, but not only shooting, but KILLING a man because they "thought he was going for a weapon" should be unacceptable. They couldn't wound him? Was the CIA responsible for his death..? No one will ever know now...
