The controversial Reverend Jeremiah Wright was once a thorn in Senator and Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama's side. More recently it appears that at the very least, Rev. Wright has a bone to pick with Obama. Some have suggested that Rev. Wright is intentionally attempting to damage Obama's campaign. One thing is for certain, whether intentional or not, every time Wright speaks publicly, it hurts Obama's Presidential aspirations. Rev. Wright's latest interviews, along with his speech at The National Press Club, has forced Obama's hand. Obama must now continue to put more distance between himself and his former Pastor, and speak about him in ever increasingly harsh tones. We know that Rev. Wright is an very intelligent man, which leaves two possibilities. The Reverends ego is driving his staying in the public eye, to combat what in his view, has been an unfair shake from the press. Perhaps it is because Wright feels somewhat betrayed by Obama for the way he handled the controversy from the start. What is certain is that Rev. Wright must be aware that his actions have damaged, and continue to harm Obama's campaign. Had Rev. Wright eased up in the beginning, perhaps Obama's speech on race would have quelled this issue. Legendary Director Spike Lee had some sharp criticism of Rev. Wright. Lee said; "Jeremiah Wright needs to be quiet. If he loves Barack Obama he needs to shut up right now. It makes me question his motives for talking. I'm starting to wonder whether somebody has been contributing to the building funds of his church. Seriously... It looks like he's being paid to keep talking". I think Spike just wants him to do the Wright thing.
