In "Vive La France", I gave French President Nicolas Sarkozy a lot of credit for being amongst the first of the World's leaders to suggest a boycott of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies hosted by China. China's Human Rights record speaks for itself, and the tragedy in Tibet is just the latest example. Sarkozy has once again taken the lead by pushing the European Union to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown have already said they won't be attending the Opening Ceremonies. Sarkozy said; "That means the 27 countries will have to agree on a common position," Sarkozy said. "It would be better if on this issue Europe spoke with one voice," when speaking about a possible EU boycott of the Opening Ceremonies. I have asked before and now am asking again, where is the World's beacon of hope, justice, and freedom on this issue? Well President Bush says that he is going to attend the Opening Ceremonies as planned. I have at times, admired Bush for sticking to his guns and not bending to every public opinion poll. This time he is wrong. If America won't get out in front and lead on this important Human Rights issue, then we should get in line and follow.
